About Us

S & D Garritt Ltd, formerly S.F. Garritt Ltd, was established in 1982 by Steve Garritt. We are an entirely family run business based in Doncaster, but undertake work anywhere in the country, and occasionally overseas.

All of our consulting staff are members of the Institute of Acoustics, and the company is a member of the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC). We are registered on the ANC scheme for accredited Pre Completion Sound Insulation Testing.

We strive to give the best, most accurate acoustic advice and consultancy, while minimising implications for the cost and maximising the sustainability of any project. Our fees are competitive and we aim to provide useful, comprehensive consultancy while keeping our clients costs as low as possible.

Previous Work

We have been involved in a very diverse range of projects from single dwelling planning applications to large multi million pound residential, commercial and industrial schemes. We undertake consultancy and continuous noise monitoring for several annual entertainment events and music festivals.

Other previous work has involved sound power testing of large scale industrial plant and machinery in accordance with International Standards, mixed use developments, and the acoustic design and test work required in new schools.

If you would like to speak to someone about any of the services we offer, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone, post or e-mail.

Consultants

Steve Garritt

Steve Garritt graduated from Imperial College, London in 1967 with an honours degree in Electrical Engineering. He has been a full member of the Institute of Acoustics since 1977 and started his own consultancy, S.F. Garritt Ltd in 1982. His previous employment was in acoustics, industrial noise control and vehicle noise for ICI, Sohio Oil and Case.

Steve has taught various modules of the Institute of Acoustics post graduate Diploma at Leeds Metropolitan University since 1985 and sits on the ANC Membership Steering Committee.

David Garritt

David’s interest in Acoustics started as a teenager and continued through university, spending many weekends and holidays assisting his father Steve with various projects. David graduated from Loughborough University in 2004 with an honours degree in Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering, and obtained the Institute of Acoustics Diploma one year later. Whilst at university, David also worked at the Student Union, constructing sound and lighting rigs for union events, then running the sound and light desks during such events.

David has been a director of the company since 2003 and now teaches the Noise and Vibration Control Engineering module of the Institute of Acoustics Diploma at Leeds Metropolitan University. David currently sits on the ANC Communications Group.

Elizabeth Garritt

Elizabeth graduated in 2008 with a degree in BioMedial Science from Sheffield Hallam University, followed one year later by the Institute of Acoustics diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.

Elizabeth has obtained a qualification in Industrial Audiometry, accredited by the British Society of Audiology (BSA), enabling her to perform Audiometry tests, often required under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations. These tests are separate from the consultancy work that we offer, so Elizabeth is the sole director of National Audiometry Services, who offer these at-work hearing tests.
