Our Services

We offer a wide range of acoustic services, but some of the most common are:

Residential Planning

If you have applied, or are about to apply for planning permission to build residential properties, the Local Planning Authority may request that you have a noise survey carried out on the site. This may be due to nearby roads, a railway line, or industrial or entertainment premises which may affect the site.

Typically a survey of this type will involve three or four site visits during the daytime and at night, and an assessment to Planning Policy Guidance (PPG)24. A report is submitted which includes a suggested noise mitigation scheme which should ensure the amenity of future residents if technically possible and if planning permission is granted.

Industrial Planning

If you are undertaking a new industrial development, the Local Planning Authority may request that you have a noise survey carried out on the site. This is usually needed to quantify the potential disturbance to nearby residents.

Typically a survey of this type will involve two or three site visits during the likely times of operation of the proposed industrial development, plus a visit to the existing premises of the future occupants if appropriate. A report is submitted in which an assessment is made to the relevant standards for industrial noise affecting residential properties. If it is found that complaints are likely, a mitigation scheme can be suggested which should reduce the likelihood of complaint if technically possible.

Entertainment Planning

A noise survey is often requested by the Local Planning Authority when any new bar, club or other potentially noisy entertainment venue is planned near existing housing, or for a licence renewal. The number of site visits and complexity of the survey depends on the proposed opening hours and the type of venue concerned.

Advice can be given in relation to the reduction of sound escaping new or existing entertainment premises.

Control of Noise at Work Regulations

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations were updated in 2005 with more stringent requirements. We can undertake workplace surveys in accordance with the new regulations for companies of any size and type. The survey report will identify the exposure action values at all work stations and the statutory requirements for further action by the employer.

We use the latest DoseBadge equipment for these tests which is unobtrusive and allows your employees to continue work unhindered by the survey.

Audiometric Testing

In situations where employees are exposed to noise levels above 85 dBA the Regulations call for employees to have audiometric tests to assess any hearing damage. They should undergo a baseline audiometric test, be retested once a year for the first two years, then once every three years thereafter to monitor any progression of hearing damage.

If it is suspected that any employee is suffering with hearing loss as a result of occupational noise, it is recommended that the employee is referred to their GP for further investigation.

We use the latest audiometric testing equipment and have two staff members accredited by the British Society of Audiology (BSA) for carrying out Industrial Audiometry Testing.

In conjunction with a workplace noise survey, we are able to offer advice on employee noise exposures, workplace noise attenuation and options to protect hearing.
